February Hackathon: Trying Something New

At Hack the Gap, our mission has always been to foster innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration in the tech space. Historically, our hackathons have been a haven for women and non-binary individuals to create, learn, and grow in a fun and supportive environment. This focus helped us build a strong, supportive community and tackle the barriers often faced in the tech industry.

Over the last four years, Hack the Gap has grown beyond hosting hackathons to offering a range of programs designed to support underrepresented groups in tech. These programs have created opportunities for participants to learn, grow, and build meaningful connections in the industry. By opening this hackathon to everyone, we're ensuring that our program participants can join the experience as well, collaborating with others in a way that reflects the diversity and inclusivity we strive to foster. This expansion allows us to celebrate the progress we've made while bringing together a broader community to innovate and create.

For this upcoming hackathon, we're trying something new. We're opening the event to allow all of our community members to attend. This shift allows us to create an even broader space for collaboration, where our program participants—who come from a variety of backgrounds—can fully engage alongside others who share their passion for innovation and creativity.

While we expand participation, it's important to note that our core values remain the same. Our Code of Conduct will still be in full effect, ensuring that the hackathon remains a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone. This commitment to fostering respect, equity, and collaboration will always be central to everything we do.

We're excited to experiment with this approach, bringing together diverse voices in new ways while staying true to our mission of supporting underrepresented communities in tech.
