Project Management With Architectural Technologies Track
What is project management?
Project management involves utilizing specific knowledge, skills, instruments, and methods on project tasks to fulfill the project's objectives.
Consider the last group vacation or trip you planned. Selecting a destination, assigning responsibilities, managing finances, organizing arrivals, and making sure everyone has a good time - these are all elements of project management. Reflect on how successfully managing these aspects enhances your trip. Similarly, imagine the benefits such management brings to a business. Project management is crucial for companies because it ensures projects are completed as expected, both on schedule and within budget. Therefore, project management plays a vital role in the achievement of both large and small projects.
What is architectural technology will we focus on?
The architectural technology we will be focused on is building information model (BIM) software called Revit. Building Information Modeling (BIM) simply means you are creating a 3D digital building model that hold geometric information necessary for building construction. BIM allows us to model a building and store information within that geometry, so we have an easier job making design decision as well as producing all project documentation.
Revit is also a great collaborating and allowing the different construction trades (Mechanical, Plumbing, electrical, and structural) to work simultaneously on the same project with architects.
The 3D model is used to create all the architectural element and then the structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers can add all the other building elements to the same model.
By collaborating on the same model, conflicts and clashes between trades and building construction elements can be found and resolved, hence eliminating the cost associated with changing the design during the construction phase.
What is project management and BIM software about?
Project management and BIM software simplify and enhance the way teams approach construction and design projects. By integrating project management principles—such as detailed planning and efficient execution—with the advanced capabilities of Building Information Modeling (BIM), teams can work more collaboratively and efficiently. REVIT allows for a unified digital workspace where architects, engineers, and construction professionals can simultaneously create and modify a comprehensive 3D model. This process not only streamlines design and documentation but also helps preemptively resolve potential conflicts, reducing costly changes during construction. This combination of strategic project management with BIM’s innovative technology ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with optimal precision, making it an invaluable approach for the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
