Digital Spring Cleaning

You’re looking around your desk contemplating whether it needs a deep spring clean or you need a day of PTO. (you should probably take the PTO 😉) As you start to dust and organize your desk, consider doing some digital spring cleaning!

1. Update LinkedIn

Polish up your profile to show what makes you amazing at your profession. Start by adding new positions or responsibilities you have taken on. Update your headshot and background image. Add new skills, certificates, or focus areas. Round off your profile with volunteer work, board advisory roles, and speaking engagements.

2. Audit Your Digital Presence

Clean out your digital closet. Start with loading old portfolio items onto an external hard drive. Dig into your inbox to archive and organize emails (Goal: Inbox Zero!). Check your LinkedIn, website, and resume for outdated information and update or remove irrelevant content.

3. Update Your Resume

Your resume showcases your particular skills and experiences to employers. Add newly acquired skills, certifications, and experiences. If you are applying to a job, use relevant keywords and emphasize accomplishments and skills related to the industry. Add your LinkedIn or website URL. Don’t forget to include industry specific speaking engagements, blogs, or panels!

4. Sharpen Your Skills

Sign up for a workshop, event, or class to learn industry relevant information. Read a blog or book related to your field. Listen to a podcast. Earn a certificate in a skill necessary for your industry. (Bonus tip: Ask for recommendations on LinkedIn to show you are a professional who is eager to learn!)

Now, go grab an ice cold tea, put on your headphones, and spend some time spring cleaning your digital self. Your employer will be sure to notice!
